10 Smartest States in America by SAT Scores

Now let’s learn about the smartest states in America by SAT scores. Insider Monkey has recently published an interesting article about this topic. Do SAT scores show peoples’ intelligence? Definitely not. We need to explain that there is a difference between being smart and being intelligent. Intelligence is something that you are born with, while being smart is something that is (l)earned throughout life. They are connected, however, because your innate intelligence quotient actually reflects your ability to become smarter through learning. So, to sum it up, having a high score on your SAT can show how much you know, and in a way how smart you are, but it cannot show how much time you needed to learn something (what are you inherent intelligence capabilities).

Now without a further ado let’s see what Insider Monkey has investigated for us. We have picked three of the smartest states in America by SAT scores.

The first state is Vermont. Three more points put Vermont on a higher place on our list of smartest states in America by SAT scores. What about the average IQ of its residents? It is 103.8, it is also higher than the previous entry. Let’s see how other states stand with the relation of IQ and SAT scores. The second state on our list is Iowa. Iowa maybe has a higher IQ average then the previous one.  You are probably noticing that the differences are pretty small both in IQ and SAT  scores, but this should be expected since these are the top 10 smartest states in America by SAT scores, and not all 50 states. In case you are wondering, the state with the lowest SAT score of 963 is West Virginia, and its average IQ is not among the 10 worst with the mark hitting 98.7. At last, but not least let’s check the numbers of North Dakota, Virginia, and South Dakota. These three states have the same average SAT score of 1099, but their IQ averages differ a bit. North Dakota is the most intelligent with the IQ average of 103.8, the second one is South Dakota with 102.8, and the least intelligent among these three is Vrigina with the average IQ score of 101.9.
