I have no idea what is happening with the law. Sure, I am really not into that business but as a single mom living in a city that isn’t that safe, like probably no city in the world, I can’t help but wonder why are prison sentences that short? And what are the criteria for making the decisions for the longevity?
Don’t get me wrong, I am not all for killing the killers, chop off hands of stealers, but there should be some law that decides on several measures how long should a person be behind the bars. For example, last year a man from the city l live in was sentenced to only 3 years in prison for raping a woman. I mean, is that really the right solution?
Two years before that, a 20-year-old boy was sentenced to 30 months in prison for killing another boy in a self-defense. So tell me now, how is this fair? First of all, the truth is that the life of one boy is over but he feels nothing now. People who left behind are the ones who suffer. This isn’t an excuse but, after all, the killed boy was wrong this time. It was the other guy’s instinct that worked here. I mean, what he needed to do? Let the drunk idiot whose father was on higher position attack him with the knife and kill him just to show that he can? Of course, each one of us would try to save our own lives, am I right? And he didn’t do it on purpose. He just went out to have some fun and ended up attacked by a person with a knife. Of course, he defended himself and he just wanted to take the knife away so that he wouldn’t die. And who actually thinks straight at that moment?
On the other hand, we have a guy who just decided that he has the right to make someone sleep with him against her will. He thought that a girl that he was attracted to that, at the same time, didn’t feel the same, had to sleep with him even if it was against her will. This also meant being physically violent and the worst thing was that a girl did nothing wrong. She has never been rude to him. She never hurt him. And she needs to live with the pain and traumatized for the rest of her life.
