12 Most Consumed Meats in the World in 2018

Let’s proceed to the list of the most consumed meats in the world in 2018. Insider Monkey has recently published an interesting article about it giving you a great review. Global meat production statistics pointed out that, between 1977 and 2017, production of meat tripled to around 600 billion pounds whereas the world population grew by 81%. Developed countries consume double the amount of meat consumed in developing countries. People in developing countries consume 70.5 pounds of meat per person on the average (on a yearly basis), compared to 176.3 pounds per person in developed countries. The estimations are that consumption of livestock products will almost double in Africa and South Asia, from 200 kcal per person per day in 2000 to 400 kcal in 2050. If we check out the meat consumption by country 2017 list, the U.S. is the second highest meat consuming nation in the world.

Now without a further ado let’s see what Insider Monkey has investigated for us. We have picked three of most consumed meats in the world in 2018 from their list.

The first one is goose meat. Goose meat is very popular in Asia, particularly in China. The goose production is increasing rapidly. The consumption of goose meat is 2.5 million tons each year worldwide. I have a tiny little farm, and I have geese too. Their meat is extremely delicious and healthy as it is considered to be red meat. The next on on our short list should be turkey meat. The United States of America is one of the most turkey producing and consuming countries in the world, while Israel is the highest consuming turkey meat country with around 11.25 kg per capita, per year. In my home country turkey is one of the most popular meats, especially nowadays. At last, but not least we are mentioning goat meat.  A lot of countries around the world are big consumers of goat meat. The world production of goat meat is around 13 million tons. China consumes the most goat meat in the world with around 42% of the total world consumption.
