14 Countries with the Best, Most Rousing, Worst and Strangest National Anthems in the World

I have often wondered which country has the best national anthem, and here is a great compilation of the countries with the best, most rousing, worst and strangest national anthems in the world. Insider Monkey has recently published an interesting article about it. Judging a country’s national anthem, especially judging a thing like the top 10 worst national anthems, can be tricky. The so-called funny national anthem of India might not be funny at all to the people of India, for example. Because, for some people, messing with their national anthem is like messing with their little sister. If you even touch it, you’re toast. With so many different kinds of people in the world, there’s no way all of our national anthems could be similar to each other’s. Our cultures are all defined by different moments in history, different customs and different types of music which all plays into a national anthem. Also, each person is biased to his own country’s national anthem, whether they want to be or not.

This article was one of favorites and I listened to all of the anthems with pleasure. Come with me, and listen to them, too! You can find great videos in the original list.

Now without a further ado let’s see what Insider Monkey has investigated for us. We have picked three countries with the best, most rousing, worst and strangest national anthems in the world from their list.

The first country is The Netherlands. This song practically makes no sense as a national anthem because, rather than focusing on the general accomplishments of its people and military, it just tells the story of the life of one Dutch revolutionary and his reasons for fighting against Spain. The second country is Canada. “O Canada” was once a French poem, and it’s since been poorly translated. The country is actually attempting to change their anthem currently, but many citizens are just too used to singing the old version. I really loved this anthem, it was great to hear. At last, but not least let’s see Sweden. This anthem is strange because it’s dedicated to all of the Nordic people, not just the Swedes. Additional verses have since been added to make it more relatable to Sweden, but Swedes tend to enjoy singing the old song more, and these new verses have never officially been added to the anthem.
