Drug cartels fuel violence and terror, keeping the crime rate high. Then we should mention Pietermaritzburg, South Africa. Pietermaritzburg ranks 4th on Numbeo, with a crime index of 81.97. In 2016, this city was ranked 2nd most dangerous. It is nice to see that there is some improvement. I hope this trend continues. At last, but not least we should consider Charlotte Amalie, The United States Virgin Islands. The United States Virgin Islands are ranked 5th as having one of the highest murder rates in the world. Charlotte Amalie is the largest city on Saint Thomas and one with the highest crime rate on the island. If you are going there for a vacation, do not let the azure ocean color fool you into thinking that nothing bad can happen to you there. Keep an eye on your valuables.
