AMOLED (Active Matrix Organic Light Emitting Diode) on the other hand uses the organic material on TFT (thin film transistor). This way, each pixel can be individually illuminated. The advantages of AMOLED technology are that it allows producing thinner displays, has no restrictions when it comes to display size, black colors are darker and consumes less power in theory. The disadvantages include poor performance under the sunlight and shorter lifetime. You may encounter term Super AMOLED, which represents advanced AMOLED technology that allows thinner devices by integrating actual screen and touch screen in just one layer.
